Irwin L. "Pappy" Potts, Jr.

SAVANNAH – Irwin L. "Pappy" Potts, Jr., 92, died Thursday, May 27, 2010.
Born March 7, 1918 in Savannah, Pappy graduated from Savannah High School in 1938. He attended Georgia Tech and was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. He volunteered for the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and got his commission and wings in May of 1942. He was called to active duty and sent overseas for nineteen months during World War II. Mr. Potts joined the Air National Guard and served in Korea, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1966.
On his return to Savannah from World War II, Mr. Potts joined the family Packard dealership and then worked with Dearing Chevrolet. He retired from Colonial Oil where he was a sales representative and corporate pilot.
He was a member and past president of the St. Andrews Society, a member of the Savannah Yacht Club, SAFANG, and several dove hunting clubs.
He was the loving husband of Catherine B. Potts for sixty-seven years, father of Pamela Anne Potts and Puttie Potts Barnes, grandfather of Amy E. Gaylor and Rebecca G. Hobby, and great-grandfather of Lane and Cole Hobby.
A Memorial Service celebrating Mr. Potts' life will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The family will receive friends at their home on Tuesday June 1, following the service.
